Senior Software Engineer - pure back-end for APIs, Web and Core Engine

What’s Devo’s challenge

We try to take Data Analytics to the next level.  Our platform can process data in real time, up to 150k events per second per node and we are trying to add it new features every month. We partner with top companies to enhance their business and operations helping them to gather and process more and more data in less time, while needing fewer resources.

What are the back-end challenges?

We have 3 main ones:

Web: Sustain and enhance our platform’s processes regarding user accounts, permissions, functionalities, etc.

Stream processing engine: we build our own Big Data API that can treat events real-time. We are also working on enhancing our Alerts and Reinjections so our clients can receive a message or trigger an internal workflow in case we detect an anomaly or enrich what they are storing but crossing events from other data sources. Make no mistake, this is not the typical API that just access a data base, writes something and then displays information, it goes far a beyond by trying to solve problems of concurrence and parallelism.

Core Engine: this is the heart of our platform. This team is responsible for the real-time collection and storage of data, in other words, they never see what they do, the can only time it and measure it. If you like to use complex algorithms, deal with large amount of unorganized data that needs to be treated and you like to optimize CPU’s powers, look no further.

What’s a day in back-end @ Devo:

  • Develop backend features focused on writing clean and reusable code mainly in Java but also in Kotlin in our core engine project and any new language that we might use.
  • Create and maintain unit tests for the corresponding tasks.
  • Work in a dynamic environment as a growing company needs, so communication duties are mandatory.
  • Plan programming projects by confirming program objectives and specifications. Verify program operation by confirming tests.
  • Work at the highest level of all technical phases of programming. Critically review all programs prior to implementation.
  • Conducts thorough problem analysis of technical system and application programs; documents findings and proposes problem resolution alternatives.
  • Comply with programming standards, company directives and legal requirements.

What would make you a Devo:

  • Researcher & Executor mentality! We are building a high-performance platform to be used around the world. We need someone to look for new horizons without forgetting the daily tasks.
  • Experience developing software other than web or accounting software (engineering, drivers, compilers, …)
  • Very strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, concurrence and parallelism.
  • Enjoy learning and problem solving.
  • 5 years of software development experience mainly in Java.

What do our people get?

  • Competitive salary that gets review every year to stay in market.
